Sal’s Pizza Bar Serves Up NY Style Pizza in Orlando
Imagine growing up in Sicily, savoring pizzas made from scratch by your grandparents, who crafted the sauce from homegrown tomatoes and spices. Then, at age 10, you move to New York and help your father run pizza shops there. The result? You become a darn good pizza maker.
Meet Salvatore Conigliaro, the proud owner of a new pizza joint in Dr. Phillips—Sal’s Pizza Bar. Salvatore, affectionately known as Salvo, is dedicated to using only the freshest and highest quality ingredients in his pizzas. From homemade tomato sauce to locally sourced vegetables and meats, he takes pride in every element that goes into his pies.
Sal’s Pizza Bar, rooted in Conigliaro‘s rich Italian heritage, offers a wide range of pizza options crafted from beloved family recipes and cooked in a wood-fired brick oven. Using his Sicilian grandmother’s sauce recipe and his Sicilian grandfather’s recipe for a crispy dough, Sal’s will serve 10-15 different pizzas by the slice to walk-up customers. While the exact amount of outdoor seating is still to be determined, Conigliaro‘s ensures a welcoming and delightful dining experience.
This marks the first Sal’s Pizza Bar, but it is not Conigliaro‘s first foray into the pizza business. He previously owned Pizza Mia Ristorante on South Orange Blossom Trail in Orlando, which he eventually sold. Now known as Nexus Pizza, the establishment garnered rave reviews for its exceptional New York-style pizza.
Conigliaro‘s journey from Sicily to New York and now to Dr. Phillips is a testament to his passion and dedication to the art of pizza making. His commitment to quality and tradition is evident in every slice, promising an authentic and unforgettable experience for all who visit Sal’s Pizza Bar.
I had the opportunity recently to dine at Sal’s and all I can say is I’ve found my new favorite pizza spot in Orlando!
What I really liked about my experience was the friendly feeling of the entire staff I had the opportunity it engage with. Seated at the bar area of the pizza bar offered a unique vantage point to watch a pizza making master at work. From the hand-crafted dough to the packed to the rim Italian rolls—Everything is freshly made by hand and to order.
There is always a hot debate in any city about “what’s the best pizza spot in town?” Especially with our friends from the Northeast U.S. and of course, New York. Well, Sal’s may have resolved that debate for many. I know it has for me.
From the friendly staff, the atmosphere of the restaurant, and of of course the incredibly great food options. Sal’s Pizza Bar is a VERY welcome addition to Orlando’s food scene and to the thriving new community of O-Town West.
